There is no fear
for the one whose mind
rests quiet,
like a lake untouched
by wind.
Desire stirs the waters,
clouds the depths,
makes shadows where none exist,
births hunger where wholeness is.
But when the grasping ceases,
when the hand no longer reaches,
the heart stands still—
clear as a morning sky,
vast as eternity.
What is there to lose
when nothing is clung to?
What can be taken
from one who holds nothing?
In that freedom,
fear dissolves,
like mist before the rising sun.
Peace remains,
shining in the silence
of a desireless mind.
