I Choose Gentleness
I choose gentleness—let it be
The quiet root that steadies me.
For nothing lasting, nothing true
Is ever won by force pushed through.
If I must raise my voice today,
Let it be only praise I say—
A hymn of hope, a song of light,
A word to lift the weary night.
If ever my hand should clench in haste,
Let it be only in prayer embraced—
Fingers folded, anger stilled,
A silent plea, a longing filled.
If I should make a sharp demand,
Let it be only of my hand—
To serve with patience, work with care,
To build a world more just, more fair.
Gentleness is not to yield
Or turn away from what’s revealed—
It is the strength to stand and see,
To heal, to hold, to simply be.
So may my life, in every part,
Be shaped by kindness at its heart.
For peace is sown where gentleness goes—
And in its garden, true love grows.
